This blog is going to be following me around on my travels. I set foot, eyes and taste bud on many lands far and near and like to take pictures, so people have been telling me to blog about my trips. Now i'm still in my second home, which I wont be back to in awhile. Pittsburgh is the ending point of a four year adventure. To those that shared this adventure, they will smile at most of the things on this list. Please let me know if i left anything out. i will keep adding to it as images and feelings keep popping up as i say goodbye. i'm very new to blogs so pls excuse me if this isn't fetching blog material. i just wanted to recap what i am leaving behind. as i embark onto new destinations...it will be more inclusive...this post will prob only appeal to other pittsburgh sojourners. as i end this chapter of my life, I will hold close to my heart memories of
-waiting for the bus on southside on our freezing, shivering limbs...doing lunges on the pavement to keep our blood circulating.
-the first time i ever tried cake batter ice-cream from Coldstone (so amazing that Australia has a ripoff called Coldrock)
-Dozens cupcakes. Coco's cupcakes. Vanilla cupcakes.
-My mouth burning up at Marian's birthday dinner in the Ethiopian place and downing 11 glasses of water as a result- I was pissed.
-When the Steelers won which 10,000 geeks used as an excuse to come outta their shell and rip the city apart, traffic lights, road signs and all.
- being in love with Panera freshman yr cos i thought it was healthy but really no chain is ever free of sodium
- Falling water and its cave-like corridors
- roamin up and down walnut street trying to create needs to fulfill, ie. sampling everything in sephora hoping it would culminate into a newfound need for green liquid glitter eyeliner or a refillable moisturizing cuticle pen. never the case. same goes for trying to love victoriassecret/american eagle outfitters/abercrombie..after awhile had to face the fact that i dont need any more 3 for $25 brazilian lace tangas or plaid shorts.
- shit i never tried gulliftys jazz bar in squirrell hill! (this is where the underground, the place we would chill for hours in freshman yr under our dorm in morewood, got their $5 dollar cakes- banana mousse pie, german chocolate cake, oreo cheesecake, etc.)
- that said, chillin for 5 hours at a time at the couches of the Underground...pigging out on sweet potato fries (which i always called tapioca fries for some reason), pasta swimmin in alfredo sauce somehow mixed in with stirfried veggies haha, AND...AND...And...the chocolate mousse...which they discontinued, prob cos i was the only one givin it business.
- snotty mothafuckin bouncers at stupidass try hard bars at station square and southside where pple think ed hardy teeshirts equals they're the ballers of allegheny county. gross.
- cute boys who worked at Moda at shadyside
- Ritas mothafuckin water ice!!! never really loved it persay but it still got me excited cos everyone was excited and i loved the mezclage of the cooling water ice and the milky frozen yoghurt..i always got mint choc chip ice with mixed custard.
- watchin some pitt football game all the way in heinz stadium. still dont knwo the rules.
- Cozumel and the sweaty folk all lookin around n tryin to get their piece of ass for the night.
- dancing on bars at frat parties dressed as a tennis hoe with my fellow morewood skanks (but not really (skanks)).
- the wall of shame! i think i won. but those days are over.
- watchin napolean dynamite when the big screen was up in schinley
- Sushi boat down at Pitt's campus...always blasting jeezy or xhibit...its a mystery how those random mixes landed in the hands of our old, smiling malaysian and taiwanese immigrant friends working behind the counter.
- kiva han and their pseudo hippie clerks and menu (mock n cheese- fake mac and cheese for vegans)
- orient express and being addicted to eggplants...i ate this everyday.
- lovin my time in pitt but also probably having spent half of all my weekends in another city- miami, atl, ny, chicago, boston, la...
- when the individual smell of my friends' couches become ingrained in my nostrils from having spent night after night burying my sleep in them.
- how pittsburgh does not have a single legit salon to go to...all three places ive tried shaping my eyebrows at have literally made it their agenda to make them non-existant.
- the quirkiness of Carnegie Mellon University...can't think of a better word to describe it right now. dorkiness maybe. i will get back to this...very grateful to this wonderful place.
- ok everyone remembers Fenton, my crazy resident manager who one minute is the nice handyman next door, the next shoutin obscenities, startin fights with my friends and filing racist reports...u wouldn't guess the manipulative mind behind his sweaty bangs, snake tattoo and Kiss teeshirt.
that said, Pittsburgh is also the starting point of a new journey. i'm getting ready these next two days to peace out.
